Nokia is a Finnish multinational communications and information technology company which was founded in 1865. Nokia is a major contributor to the mobile technology industry and was for a period of time the largest vendor of mobile phones in the world. Nokia dominated the mobile technology at one stage however as competitors such as apple and Samsung began to produce smartphones around 2008 Nokia slowly became overshadowed. Nokia’s sold its mobile phone industry to Microsoft in 2014 and began to focus more extensively on its telecommunications infrastructure business but Nokia is planning to make a return to the mobile phone market in 2017.
